Geordie Greep Cancels US Shows After 'I Made a Move' Stage Admission
Flyers calling him a rapist went out to his Vancouver crowd ... he took the stage, admitted to an unwanted advance, and four US dates are now gone.
Open Hailing Frequencies ↓Geordie Greep's solo North American tour hit a wall in Vancouver on October 8 ... flyers naming him a rapist circulated outside the venue, he took the stage without his backing band, addressed the crowd directly, and four US dates have since been cancelled, per Rolling Stone.
From the stage, Greep described a house-party incident that had occurred earlier that day. Per Consequence: "I got the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a move." He continued: "Made a move, and it didn't come off, and I really quickly, of course, apologized." Then: "I would never rape a woman. I'm not a rapist."
He characterized the episode as "a complete misunderstanding on my part" following a night out at bars with bandmates.
The flyers, distributed to fans arriving at the show, read: "Geordie Greep A Rapist. You know what you did this morning Oct 8th." Greep performed the full Vancouver set alone after his band stood down. He offered refunds to any attendee who wanted to leave and donated the night's proceeds to a British Columbia organization supporting victims of sexual violence, according to Stereogum.
Four Shows Gone, Two Still On
The tour resumed on paper but not in practice. Boise (October 11), Salt Lake City (October 12), and two Colorado dates in Boulder and Denver were cancelled in the days that followed. Ticket holders learned of the cancellations through venue emails rather than a direct statement from Greep. Two final North American dates in Iowa and Nebraska were still listed at press time. His European leg opens November 1 with no changes announced.
What the Stage Admission Actually Did
Greep did not deny that something happened. He described what he understood to have happened, called it a misunderstanding, said he apologized quickly, and stood in front of an audience that had just read flyers accusing him of rape. It is a more transparent response than most artists give in this situation, and it is also the only public account on record, which means it is doing all the work on its own.
His accuser has not been publicly identified. No label or management statement has been issued beyond his on-stage remarks. The proceeds from the Vancouver show are going to an anti-violence organization, which is not nothing, but also does not resolve what the flyers said.
What happens to the European dates, and whether additional statements follow, is the next thing to watch.
