Kim Kardashian Stages a "Wardrobe Emergency" for DoorDash x Skims

The billionaire called DoorDash mid-photoshoot because her outfit was wrong. The outfit was Skims. She co-founded Skims. The ad launched October 13 and it is either genius or a parody of luxury problems.

Kim Kardashian's photoshoot went sideways ... so she called DoorDash. The outfit she ordered on-demand was Skims, the shapewear and loungewear company she co-founded in 2019. The whole meltdown was a scripted ad, and it launched October 13 as an Instagram reel.

The spot shows Kardashian dissatisfied mid-shoot: she says "hold on a second" and "fix this," opens DoorDash, and a courier arrives with a red DoorDash bag full of corsets and shapewear. She tries pieces on, says "tighter," and ends in a sheer nude dress. Her caption on Instagram: "In case of outfit emergencies." She tagged DoorDash and Skims and added #doordashpartner.

What DoorDash Actually Gets Out of This

DoorDash has been quietly expanding beyond food for two years. This is the company's first on-demand apparel partnership with a national fashion brand. "DoorDash was built on one idea: you should be able to get everything you need in your neighborhood, right now," said Shanna Prevé, DoorDash's chief revenue officer. Prevé also noted that what people wear to dinner is increasingly part of what DoorDash delivers, not just the dinner itself.

Robert Norton, Skims chief commercial officer, called it a flexibility play: "Our partnership with DoorDash gives customers greater flexibility and convenience when shopping Skims." Per HOLR Magazine, the delivery covers 23,000-plus Skims styles from 17 stores across 11 states and Washington D.C., with nine more stores slated to join.

The Actual Question the Ad Skips

Shapewear is not impulse purchase territory. Pizza, medicine, last-minute groceries: yes. A corset mid-photoshoot: only if you are Kim Kardashian and the photoshoot itself is the advertisement. The campaign does not need to resolve whether real customers will DoorDash a bodysuit at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday. It needs to wire the association: wardrobe problem, open DoorDash. That is an easier job than it sounds.

What the creative does well is compress a long pitch into a physical demonstration. DoorDash has a speed problem in fashion: nobody thinks of it as a place to buy clothes. Putting Skims in a red delivery bag and calling it an emergency fix is a fast way to reframe the category. Whether it converts is a separate question from whether the ad does its job, which is to plant the idea.

One Sidebar: the Samsung Cameo

In the October 12 teaser reel, Kardashian is visibly holding a Samsung Galaxy device. Samsung is not listed as a partner on the campaign. SamMobile flagged the appearance. Whether it was intentional product placement, an existing Samsung relationship, or coincidence is not something any party has confirmed. It is the kind of detail that only matters if you are watching closely enough to notice, which means it was effective either way.

The DoorDash x Skims partnership was announced September 8, 2026. The ad launched five weeks later. For a campaign this dependent on Kardashian's personal credibility, the timing is deliberate: her Skims equity means she has every reason to want the brand to move product faster. DoorDash gives her a new distribution channel. The ad is the argument for why anyone should use it.
