On the Ravens' first offensive snap in a 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on November 1, Lamar Jackson's right thumb collided with the hand of outside linebacker Greg Rousseau as he released a pass. Coach Jesse Minter confirmed the following day that Jackson will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve. Asked whether the injury is season-ending, Minter said: "Potentially, but we'll see where it's at."

Kalshi, the regulated prediction market exchange, had priced Baltimore's Super Bowl chances at 6¢ before kickoff. By 4:49 p.m. ET on November 1, the Ravens were at 2¢ (+4,900) on the futures board, tied with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers. That is a 67% drop in a single afternoon. At Caesars Sportsbook, Baltimore moved from 14-1 entering Sunday to 50-1 after the injury news broke, per Covers.com. The Bills moved to outright Super Bowl favorites at +550.

The scale of the move reflects how much of the Ravens' season value lived in one player. Baltimore is 79-33 in 112 regular-season starts with Jackson since Week 11 of 2018. In the 20 games he did not start over that same span, they went 7-13 and averaged 17.7 points per game versus 28.2 with him, per Sports Betting Dime.

Starting at quarterback is undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, who had not played a regular-season NFL snap before finishing Sunday's loss. He went 10-of-21 for 91 yards with one interception and three sacks against the Bills. Backup Tyler Huntley left the same game with turf toe and faces an MRI. Baltimore is 4-4, in last place in the AFC North, two games behind the Steelers. Their next four opponents are the Jacksonville Jaguars (Thursday), Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans, all without their starter.

The AFC North Shift

Kalshi's AFC North market tells the same story. Baltimore was at 23¢ (+335) before Week 8. They dropped to 14¢ in the hours after the game, with the market still moving as of November 1. Cincinnati, which went to 5-2 on the week, sits at 53¢. Pittsburgh holds 30¢. A division race that opened with Baltimore as the presumptive favorite now has three teams with a reasonable claim and one trying to stay relevant with an undrafted rookie.

The Contract Context

Jackson did not reach a contract extension with Baltimore this offseason. He enters 2027, the final year of his current deal, with an $84.34 million cap hit. He holds no-trade and no-tag clauses, which means any mid-season transaction would require his consent. The Ravens told ESPN they remain optimistic about reaching an extension. Those talks now proceed alongside a potentially lost season.
