GGPoker Signs Lex Veldhuis, Continuing the Pipeline From PokerStars
Veldhuis quietly grinded GGPoker for ten months before making it official. His new roster mate is Daniel Negreanu, who made the exact same PokerStars exit seven years ago.
Lex Veldhuis announced he was leaving PokerStars on January 3, 2026, ending a 17-year partnership that turned him from a competitive StarCraft player into the most-watched poker streamer on Twitch. Ten months later, GGPoker announced he has officially joined their ambassador roster.
The timing matters. Veldhuis did not go searching for a deal. He returned to streaming in January 2026 on GGPoker before any contract existed, reclaimed the number one spot in the Twitch Poker category, and averaged 2,034 concurrent viewers across roughly 190 hours of streaming in that first month back. He had been playing exclusively on GGPoker for nearly a year before signing.
GGPoker is the biggest poker site in the world, and it really feels like the natural fit for me and my community. Over the last year I've played exclusively on GG and have been genuinely impressed by the software and the size of the tournaments. It has completely invigorated my enjoyment of poker and grinding again. Every time I've spoken with the GGPoker team I've been intrigued by their vision and their drive to innovate. It made me realize I wanted to be part of this process.
GGPoker already had Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu spent roughly two decades as the face of PokerStars and left for GGPoker in 2019. PokerNews reported that Veldhuis joins a roster headlined by Negreanu, who called the signing a natural fit. Veldhuis has now made the same move. The two most recognizable names in mainstream poker now wear the same patch, and both arrived by the same route.
His passion for the game, his unmatched work ethic, and his ability to connect with fans are exactly what we look for in a GGTeam ambassador.
From StarCraft to Poker's Biggest Stage
Veldhuis is 42 and Dutch, from Vlissingen in the Netherlands. He began as a competitive esports player. A meeting with French poker professional Bertrand Grospellier at an international event led to his first online poker deposit in 2005. What followed was a career that produced more than $700,000 in live tournament winnings, five European Poker Tour money finishes, and a Twitch community whose size dwarfs every other poker streamer on the platform. Poker.org reported his viewership is more than double that of the game's second-ranked streamer.
His peak came during the 2020 PokerStars Championship Championship Online event, when his stream hit 58,799 concurrent viewers. That number is still the all-time record for a poker stream. His 330,000 Twitch subscribers represent an audience that most sports brands would consider a significant media property.
The year of quiet had a structural cause. PokerStars withdrew from the Netherlands in November 2021 after an order from the Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit. Veldhuis was forced to commute to Belgium to continue streaming for a site that had been his employer for 17 years. He stopped streaming poker entirely in late 2024. GGPoker holds a Dutch licence. When he returned to Twitch in January 2026, the regulatory obstacle that had made his PokerStars relationship untenable was no longer in play. Pokerfuse noted he was "adamant" he would not seek out an ambassadorial role for the sake of it.
What Comes Next
GGPoker and the WSOP share ownership. Poker.org reported that WSOP Paradise runs December 2 through 17 at the Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas. Veldhuis has hinted at playing more live poker as part of his new chapter with GGPoker. He also won a GGPoker World Festival event this year for $68,147, his biggest online result at the site before the official deal was signed.
The signing follows a year in which Veldhuis proved he could rebuild his audience from scratch and reclaim a category he had dominated for years. GGPoker now has the platform, the WSOP, and the two most visible names in the game. The question for PokerStars is what it has left.
