Sephora Tapped Seth Rogen to Play Its Most Clueless Holiday Shopper

The Emmy winner for The Studio stars as a confused gift-buyer guided through Sephora by a beauty advisor. He opens the ad saying he has no idea what he's doing. That's the strategy.

Sephora built its brand on aspirational beauty, the idea that walking in means upgrading yourself. For its 2026 holiday campaign, it chose Seth Rogen, an actor who walks onto the set saying, "I need great gifts, and I have no idea what I'm doing."

The campaign, called "We All Sephora," launches October 29 across television, streaming, and social media in the U.S. and Canada. Rogen plays a gift-buyer who needs help and then gets it from a Sephora beauty advisor, who steers him to a setting spray for his producer, a fragrance for his cousin, and a red-light therapy mask for his mom.

He brings a warmth, curiosity and humor that makes beauty feel approachable and fun.

Arnold called Rogen the "perfect partner" and framed the campaign around turning "the pressure of finding the right gift into the joy of discovery." The ad was directed by Jason Woliner and created with GUT New York.

The casting is a deliberate break from how premium beauty brands typically run holiday campaigns. Aspirational casting, faces that make the product look desirable, handed the job this season to someone who looks genuinely lost. Rogen's brand, built across two decades of stoner comedies and cemented by The Studio's record-breaking Emmy sweep in 2025, is exactly the opposite of polished. The Studio took home 13 trophies at the 77th Emmy Awards, including Lead Actor, Directing, Writing, and Outstanding Comedy Series, the record for wins in a single year for a comedy series.

The Store That Became Sethphora

Before the campaign launched, Sephora renamed its Los Angeles store at The Grove "Sethphora," replacing the brand name on the facade to tease the partnership. The store is in Rogen's home city.

DataForSEO shows searches for "seth rogen" peaked at 100 out of 100 on October 25, the day before the campaign announcement. The query "seth rogen sephora" registered its first data point today when the campaign broke, confirming the partnership was not publicly known before the newsroom release.

A Pattern, Not a One-Off

This is not Sephora's first non-traditional casting. In April, the chain ran a year-long campaign with Alysa Liu, the Olympic gold medalist figure skater. In March, it tapped reality TV participant Rob Rausch to announce MAC Cosmetics' arrival in its stores. The pattern suggests a deliberate shift away from celebrity beauty endorsements and toward personality-driven, accessibility-first campaigns.

Sephora has not disclosed the value of the deal with Rogen or whether it extends beyond the holiday season. His previous brand partnerships have included Hanes and his own cannabis company Houseplant. Sephora has not publicly commented on whether additional non-beauty personalities are planned for future campaigns.

The full "We All Sephora" campaign rolls out October 29. Rogen's curated holiday picks are already available on Sephora.com and the Sephora app.
