Rumble Refused to Cut Off Russell Brand. Then It Agreed to $100 Million in Ads.
YouTube suspended Brand's monetization in 2023. Rumble refused parliament's request to do the same and kept him earning. Fourteen months later Rumble secured a $100 million advertising commitment with Tether. The trial is now in its third week.
In September 2023, YouTube suspended monetization on every channel Russell Brand owns or operates. YouTube cited its Creator Responsibility policy. Brand had roughly 6.6 million subscribers. The revenue stopped. Two weeks later, when the United Kingdom's parliamentary Culture, Media and Sport Committee wrote to Rumble asking it to do the same, Rumble said no.
That gap between the two platforms is a business story as much as a content moderation one. On November 10, 2025, with Brand still on the platform and a trial date already public, Rumble agreed to a $100 million, two-year advertising commitment with Tether, the stablecoin company. The trial opened at Southwark Crown Court in London in October 2026. As of October 26, six women have testified. No Rumble advertiser has publicly re-evaluated its relationship with the platform since proceedings began.
The Parliamentary Letter and What Rumble Said
Dame Caroline Dinenage, chair of the UK parliamentary Culture, Media and Sport Committee, sent Rumble a letter in September 2023 asking it to demonetize Brand following Channel 4's Dispatches documentary and reporting in The Times. As reported by CBC, Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski responded publicly.
It is deeply inappropriate and dangerous that the UK Parliament would attempt to control who is allowed to speak on our platform or earn a living.
YouTube's decision came under its Creator Responsibility policy, which allows the platform to suspend monetization when a creator's offscreen conduct conflicts with advertiser expectations. Rumble frames its refusal as principled opposition to government overreach. Both positions are consistent with each platform's stated values. The practical difference is that Brand kept earning money on one platform and not the other.
The $100 Million Advertising Commitment
On November 10, 2025, Rumble announced it had secured a $100 million, two-year advertising commitment from Tether. The deal is structured at approximately $50 million per year, with payments tied to adoption of Rumble Wallet. Tether announced a separate $150 million GPU-services commitment simultaneously. As of Rumble's March 2026 earnings call, the advertising ramp had not yet begun materially.
The Tether commitment came in Rumble's first year to cross $100 million in annual revenue. Rumble's FY2025 revenue was $100.6 million, its first time above that threshold, per its SEC 10-K. The deal gave Rumble a large advertiser stake tied to cryptocurrency financial services, a category most mainstream platforms have historically treated with caution.
Where the Trial Stands
Brand faces seven charges: three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault. The alleged offenses span 1999 to 2009. Six anonymous complainants, identified as Ms A through Ms F, have given evidence. Brand denies all charges and pleads not guilty. His defence has argued the relationships were consensual and challenged complainants' accounts in cross-examination. Per ABC Australia, Brand's wife, Laura Gallacher, has been in the public gallery most days, taking notes. Brand has sat in the glass-walled dock. Whether he will testify is the biggest remaining question.
