Paige Spiranac Is Golf's Biggest Brand Draw. Haters Helped Make That Happen.
She dropped a golf tip video with a Peloton instructor and trended at 1,000+ in a day. Outlets keep telling her to do better. The brands stopped listening to those outlets a long time ago.
Engage ↓Paige Spiranac posted a video with Kendall Toole teaching women how to tee a golf ball and it landed on every US trending chart ... because that is what Spiranac does. OutKick called the "playing partner" format the formula that makes her content pop: personality plus energy, packaged for the segment of golf fandom that does not spend its afternoons watching a Tour leaderboard.
The wider claim came three days earlier. Yahoo Sports ran a piece calling Spiranac the biggest influencer in golf "and it's not even close." The piece does not provide hard follower counts or brand revenue numbers, which is worth noting. What it does argue is that she has managed to dominate the sport's social presence without a consistent LPGA card, which is the actual story.
Golf's establishment response has been consistent: she should take the sport more seriously. The effect of that response has also been consistent. Every round of criticism adds another wave of people who have never watched a Tour event saying her name.
The Brand Math Is Not About the Scorecard
Tour players earn sponsorships by performing. Spiranac earns them by being watched. Those are different businesses, and confusing one for the other is what most of the criticism gets wrong. A brand paying for reach does not care what she shot at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. It cares how many people share a golf tee video on a Thursday morning.
The Toole collab illustrates the playbook. Toole built a Peloton audience that skews fitness-curious, female, and social. That audience does not overlap much with Golf Channel viewers. Spiranac reaches one and Toole reaches the other, and the crossover video gets traffic from both. That is not how a touring pro earns a sponsor. It is how a media company builds distribution.
She Knows Exactly What She Is Building
OutKick had previously ranked Spiranac the #1 influencer in golf. That ranking predates the Toole video. The trend spike just confirms that the formula is still working. And the golf world will respond with another round of "she should focus on her game," which will put her name in front of another group of people who were not paying attention before.
The criticism is not going to stop. Neither is the brand math that makes the criticism irrelevant to anyone writing her a check.
