Stallone: 'Of Course It's Nepotism, You Idiot.' His Daughter Has the Role.

Scarlet Rose Stallone just became a series regular on the show her father stars in. He was asked about it. He said the quiet part very loudly.

Sylvester Stallone did something almost no Hollywood parent does when the nepotism conversation turns to their kid. He agreed with it. In an interview with USA Today timed to the October 16 premiere of Tulsa King Season 4, per Yahoo Entertainment, Stallone was asked about casting his daughter Scarlet Rose Stallone, 24, as Spencer, who was promoted from recurring to series regular this season. His answer: "Of course it's nepotism, you idiot. That's why we're parents. We want the best for our children. So obviously we let them have every advantage."

Then he added the caveat the entertainment industry usually pretends is the whole defense: "Can they maintain that level of excellence? That's out of our hands. You either got it or you don't."

Scarlet has been in the show since Season 1. Her character, Spencer, started as a barista, moved to caretaker at Fennario Ranch, and in Season 4 is deeper into the criminal operation Stallone's Dwight "The General" Manfredi runs in Tulsa. Per MEAWW, she now works alongside Tyson (Jay Will) and Goodie (Christopher Caldovino), with a new connection forming with a character named Mitch.

The nepo baby defense nobody actually makes

The standard move when a celebrity kid gets a major role is one of two things: either claim the audition was completely blind and they got it purely on merit, or say nothing and let the project speak for itself. What almost never happens is what Stallone did, which is to say the obvious thing out loud and then shift the goalposts to where the real question sits.

The real question is not whether a famous parent opens the door. They do, always, and pretending otherwise is theater. The real question is what the kid does once they are inside. Stallone acknowledged the first part as basic parenting logic and pinned the accountability to the second part, which is at least an honest framing of how the industry actually works.

The nepo baby conversation has been mainstream since New York Magazine's 2022 cover issue catalogued second-generation Hollywood in detail. Since then the playbook has been denial, deflection, or silence. Per Parade, which picked up the USA Today exchange, Stallone is one of the very few who went the opposite direction.

What Scarlet said about working with her father

In a separate interview with People, Scarlet said that five years of filming together has changed their relationship: "We've really become friends." She told the outlet that her father teases her about her Gen-Z expressions, and that working together gave them time they would not otherwise have had. Per Khaleej Times, Stallone said he is learning from her: "She's so good."

That warmth does not resolve the access question. The point is not that Scarlet is untalented or that the father-daughter dynamic is insincere. The point is that the conversation the industry keeps trying to avoid is actually a reasonable one, and Stallone just made it harder to dodge by saying out loud that yes, his daughter got advantages that other 24-year-olds trying to break into acting did not get.

Whether Season 4 justifies those advantages is a question the audience will answer. Tulsa King is back on Paramount Plus now.
