Kim Kardashian Dug Through OJ Simpson's Bags at 13 ... Then Panicked
She was a kid searching Louis Vuitton luggage while OJ stayed at her family's house. The panic hit when she found out police wanted that exact luggage as evidence.
Go Where No Reader Has Gone Before ↓Kim Kardashian sat down with Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 15, thirty years after her father Robert Kardashian sat at the defense table for the most watched murder trial in American television history. She had a story to tell.
After Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were killed in June 1994, OJ Simpson spent time at the Kardashian family home while Robert prepared his defense. Robert had renewed his inactive law license specifically to join the legal team. Kim was thirteen years old.
OJ brought his Louis Vuitton luggage. It was kept in Khloé's room. Kim went through it.
She told Kimmel she "played investigator," searching the bags to see if she could find anything. Kourtney caught her. According to BroadwayWorld, Kourtney yelled at her to stop going through their father's things.
Then the real panic set in. Kim learned that police planned to seize the luggage as potential evidence. She said she became alarmed, worried that her fingerprints were now on items investigators wanted.
The case that shaped everything after
Robert Kardashian died in 2003. Kim has said repeatedly that he inspired her to pursue law. That path has been unconventional: she trained through California's apprenticeship program under certified lawyers for six years instead of attending law school, passed the First-Year Law Students' Examination in 2021, and has not yet cleared the bar exam. Her criminal justice reform work, including the successful commutation of Alice Marie Johnson's sentence in 2018, draws a direct line back to watching her father work the trial.
OJ Simpson was acquitted on both counts in October 1995 in a verdict that split the country. Kris Jenner, who was close friends with Nicole Brown Simpson, had separated from Robert in 1990. The two families occupied very different positions in the case.
More than a gossip item
The luggage story gets told as a funny anecdote: kid sneaks through murder suspect's bags, gets caught by older sister, panics about fingerprints. It lands as comedy because of the distance. What it actually is: a thirteen-year-old being viscerally close to the machinery of a capital case, close enough to get scared about evidence. That proximity, not just the profession of her father, explains why Kim Kardashian has treated criminal justice as something more than a celebrity cause.
She said she will never forget it.
