Fake Screenshot Sends Miley Cyrus to 57% on the Super Bowl Halftime Market

Jay-Z picks the halftime performer. His own odds slipped to 41% while traders chased a fabricated image.

The Super Bowl LXI halftime show hasn't been announced yet ... and a fabricated Apple Music screenshot just moved the prediction market by 28 percentage points.

Miley Cyrus hit 57% on Kalshi this week, up from 29% in late September. The jump followed the spread of what Kalshi's newsletter described as "an apparently fabricated Apple Music image," a silhouette teaser that circulated across X and Instagram. TV Insider found "no official record of Apple Music publishing the image" and concluded the screenshot appeared fabricated, per Kalshi News. The prices held.

The Selector Is Losing Ground

Jay-Z sits at 41% on Kalshi, down from 47%. The context matters: Jay-Z, through his company Roc Nation, has organized seven Super Bowl halftime shows since the NFL signed a partnership in 2020. He effectively controls the selection. The person who picks the performer is being bet against by the same market he works adjacent to.

Harry Styles is at 22%.

What a 28-Point Swing Tells You

Prediction markets are framed as reliable belief aggregators: traders put money behind real conviction, so the prices are supposed to reflect genuine information. A fabricated screenshot challenges that framing. The 28-point Cyrus shift happened before any official word and on the strength of a single viral image that did not survive a fact-check.

There is a gap between "prediction markets aggregate real information" and "prediction markets aggregate what people on social media believe is real information." In a normal news cycle those two things are close. A fast-moving viral image puts distance between them, and that gap is now denominated in dollars on a regulated platform.

Per Yahoo Entertainment, 6 of 7 recent halftime performers were announced in September. This year is running behind that pace. The NFL and Roc Nation had not responded to requests for comment when the report filed. Super Bowl LXI is February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Whenever the real announcement arrives, it will resolve the market. What it cannot resolve is what already happened: a fake image moved 28 points on a platform that is supposed to be anchored in real information, and nobody lost enough to care.
