Donnie Wahlberg's Jet Skids Off Vegas Runway: "God Covered Us"

Donnie Wahlberg's private jet had already reached near 150 miles per hour when the crew called off the takeoff Sunday morning at Harry Reid International in Las Vegas ... it ran off the end of Runway 1L, punched through a perimeter fence, and stopped in a field. Eight people were aboard. Everyone walked away.

The FAA confirmed the incident involved a Dassault Falcon 50 scheduled for Toronto Pearson Airport. Airport crews shut down Runways 1L and 1R for inspection and issued a ground stop, temporarily pausing inbound traffic. Both runways reopened the same afternoon, per airport spokesperson Monika Bertaki. The cause of the abort has not been made public.

People.com reported that Amy Jo Johnson, the original Pink Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and a working singer-songwriter, was also aboard the flight and spoke out after the incident.

"These Pilots Saved Our Lives"

Wahlberg did not wait for a statement from a publicist. Within hours he posted an Instagram reel and told his followers exactly what happened: "We were taking off and didn't get up in the air and ran out of runway. These pilots saved our lives, and I'm not sure how many fences we avoided." His caption added one line: "The airplane did take some lumps, but we did not. God covered us."

No drama, no medical update tour, no crisis communications cadence. He described a high-speed abort, credited the crew, and that was the whole post.

The Abort at 150 Miles Per Hour

Aviation expert Reed Yadon, who reviewed the incident for KSNV, called the crew's decision to abort remarkable under the circumstances. At that speed, the margin between a clean stop on the overrun area and a catastrophic runway excursion is measured in fractions of a second. Yadon said investigators will likely review the cockpit voice recorder, air traffic control audio, training and maintenance records, and airport security video. The FAA has opened a formal inquiry but has not disclosed what triggered the abort.

The Post Before the Press Release

Wahlberg's response follows a pattern that has emerged in celebrity incident communications: post directly to fans before the press conference, control the first frame yourself, go specific rather than vague. He did it better than most. The reel was calm, the facts were precise, and there was no performance of trauma. No teary follow-up, no sponsored reflection on gratitude. Just "we ran out of runway, the pilots saved us, God covered us," and done.

That restraint is its own statement. Celebrity near-death incidents have a well-worn arc: managed statement, charity announcement, memoir chapter two years later. Wahlberg compressed it into one Instagram reel. The response was more revealing than any polished statement would have been, because it showed what his actual first instinct looked like under pressure.
