Sydney Sweeney Doubles Down on No Pants in SoHo Micro Shorts
She hit SoHo in a tailored jacket, brown micro shorts, and knee-high boots ... and the three-year trend that refuses to die just got its most committed repeat endorser.
Explore Strange New Parts ↓Sydney Sweeney walked out of SoHo on October 14 in a dark gray tailored jacket, brown micro shorts, knee-high boots, and nothing else below the waist, and the internet catalogued every detail within the hour. HELLO! Magazine published the outing under the headline "daring hot pants," citing her longtime stylist Molly Dickson, who told Harper's Bazaar her goal is simple: "you want to leave your house in something that you are happy and feel confident in."
Sweeney completed the look with a black leather handbag, brown leather gloves, skinny sunglasses, and a bronze eye with a pink lip. She was photographed with entertainment executive Adam Fogelson in the same neighborhood.
The no-pants trend is three years old and she keeps wearing it
The trend traces to the Fall/Winter 2023 runway season, when per the Yahoo syndication of the HELLO! piece, Miu Miu sent beaded silk shorts down the runway and essentially dared the rest of fashion to follow. They did. By the 2025 Met Gala, the no-pants look was so established that Hailey Bieber showed up in a Saint Laurent blazer with nothing underneath, Sabrina Carpenter chose a Louis Vuitton bodysuit-and-jacket set, and Cynthia Erivo came in a Givenchy version.
Three red-carpet interpretations at a single event is the fashion world's way of saying a trend has graduated from editorial concept to cultural fixture. Sweeney did not attend that Met Gala. She did not need to. Her version plays out in SoHo on a Tuesday.
Campaign Sweeney and street Sweeney are two different wardrobes
This is the part the brand deals do not tell you. When Sweeney shoots for American Eagle, the brief is approachable, denim-and-americana, the kind of look that moves units at the mall. When she fronts SYRN, her own label, the line is country-saloon elevated. When she promotes Laneige, the aesthetic is dewy and clean.
Her off-duty wardrobe does none of that. She has done the no-pants look in press tours, in Central Park, and now in SoHo. Each time, the context is her own: no brand brief, no art director, no creative approval. The gap between the two versions is not a contradiction. It is a case study in how celebrity endorsements work. Brands buy a selective version of the person. The rest of the person keeps dressing herself.
Dickson's Harper's Bazaar quote is the tell. "You want to leave your house in something that you are happy and feel confident in." That is not the brief for an ad. That is the brief for a Tuesday in SoHo.
The next brand that signs Sweeney and gives her creative latitude in the brief gets a different result than the ones managing her toward a safe demographic. The SoHo outing is what that result looks like.
